What Shows Are At Risk Of Cancellation This Season?
Lets kick off this weeks big news that the ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee ‘Resigned’ and was replaced by Channing Dungey the first African American to run a ‘big 4’ U.S network.
Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC Television Group, announced that Channing Dungey has been named president, ABC Entertainment, succeeding Paul Lee, who has decided to step down as president, ABC Entertainment Group. Ms. Dungey, who was instrumental in the development and success of such hits as “Scandal,” “Criminal Minds,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Quantico,” “Army Wives” and “Once Upon A Time”.
That means that there could be major changes at ABC next season with the new regime deciding to make a clean break and cut the networks underperforming shows to reverse the decline in ratings most networks currently face. Here are the ABC series at high risk of cancellation.
Wicked City and Blood & Oil have been cancelled.
Galavant – Midseason Sunday comedy musical critically acclaimed in it’s first season. It’s recent run no so much. Low ratings mean it’s probably not going to return next term
Agent Carter – Loved the 1st season however the S2 relocation to the sunny West coast hasn’t resonated with viewers and there are reports that the shows star Hayley Atwell has a role in an ABC pilot for next season. Very high risk of cancellation.
Nashville – Last season ‘Revenge’ was wrapped up by ABC. Nashville has been a constant ‘On The Bubble’ (could go either way) show. It’s time look like it’s time might finally up as it should get the necessary number of episodes to take it to syndication status and the network could call it a day. Low ratings means very high risk of cancellation.
Castle – Contract negotiations for the current season with shows 2 main stars were tough with Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) nearly quitting the series. Rising costs and a huge drop in ratings will probably spell the end for the Monday night drama veteran.
The Muppets – The network had high hopes for the reboot hasn’t worked out. Might return in the future just not in this guise.
All of the other shows on the ABC network should return next season.
Here’s the status update for CBS
Angel from Hell – Cancelled
The Good Wife – Final season
Mike and Molly – Cancelled Final season
CSI Cyber – Far and away the lowest rated CBS show Zero chance of a re-up IMO.
Elementary & Hawaii Five-0 are both bubble shows where it’s down to a network decision. Could go either way for each series.
Code Black – Ratings haven’t set the world on fire. Hard to call. Network decision.
NCIS: Los Angeles, 2 Broke Girls, Blue Bloods, Limitless, Mom, NCIS: New Orleans,
Criminal Minds, Supergirl, Scorpion, Life In Pieces, & NCIS should all be renewed.
The Big Bang Theory has already been renewed for S10.
Scream Queens,Bobs Burgers, The Simpsons, and Empire have all been renewed for next season.
Second Chance, The Grinder, Sleepy Hollow, Bordertown, Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life are all likely to cancelled IMO.
Grandfathered is a network call with a lean towards renewal IMO.
Bones is a show where it’ll go on as long as the stars and the network can make the numbers (finances) work so lean towards a renewal.
The Last Man on Earth, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, Rosewood, Lucifer, and The X Files should all return 2016-17.
Blindspot, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago PD, The Blacklist and Shades Of Blue have all been renewed.
Truth Be Told, Heroes Reborn, & The Player have been cancelled.
You, Me and the Apocalypse. & Telenovela will be cancelled IMO.
Undateable might survive as the NBC boss Robert Greenblatt appears to be high on it but I have it as a bubble show that could go either way.
Grimm, The Mysteries of Laura, & Superstore will be renewed IMO.
The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, The 100, iZombie are guaranteed renewals IMO.
Crazy Ex- Girlfriend is likely to be cancelled down to being the lowest rated series on the network.
Jane the Virgin & Reign are likely to re-up.
Supernatural is in the same position as Bones and it’ll come down to finances and if the stars of the show wish to continue but definite lean towards renewal at the moment.
The Vampire Diaries once The CW’s top show has now been shoved to Fridays. It should be renewed so fans need not worry.
